You are ready to buy a new sofa. The problem is you don’t know what sofa you want to get. Below are some tips you can use to find the best sofa for your needs and your home.
1. Measure the Space
Before you even go shopping for your new sofa, you want to measure your space to see how big of a sofa you can get. A few things you want to consider are:
- Are there other pieces of furniture around?
- Is it far enough from the wall if you’re getting a reclining sofa?
- Will the room look too crowded if you get a bigger one?
These are things that will help you with deciding the size of your sofa, and then you can go from there.
2. Think About Your Budget
Once you know how big your sofa can be based on the room where it will be going, you want to think about your budget. There are different prices that you’ll pay for the sofa based on the type, the material, and the size. Obviously a leather sofa is going to cost more than one that is made of cloth and a reclining sofa will cost more than one that just sits there.
3. Think About Your Lifestyle
What kind of lifestyle do you have? Do you have kids or pets? Do you like to drink wine? Are you someone who likes furniture that you can flop on or do you want something that is more formal?
4. Think About the Room Its Going in
Where is this sofa going? Are you putting it in your living room where you’ll have company and won’t be doing a lot of eating and drinking or are you putting it in the TV room where you’ll be eating snacks and slugging back some beers?
5. Think About Colors
Think about the color that you want the sofa to be. Think about it long and hard since you want the sofa to be around for a long time. That paisley sofa that you see in purple and yellow might be pretty now but what if you redecorate? What if you paint your room over? It might go with the color scheme now but will it go with the room if you redecorate?
6. Think Outside the Box
When you are choosing a sofa, don’t just think about whether you’re going to be comfortable sitting on it. Can you sleep on it? Can your kids curl up on it to watch television? This is especially important if you are putting it in your television room.
These are the things you want to think about when you are choosing your sofa. You want to buy a sofa that’s going to fit in the room in every way possible and that will fit your lifestyle. A sofa isn’t just a sofa. It’s an investment in your home’s décor and in your comfort. So make sure that you are choosing one that you’ll love using for years to come.
