Sectional Sofa

Sectional sofas are sofas that come in more than one piece. The most common number of pieces that they come in are three and five. Sectionals are able to be arranged in different ways, with sectionals that have more pieces giving you more options.

There are a lot of options when it comes to a sectional sofa. Some are quite large and are able to span big rooms and others are a lot smaller. There are two configurations that they come in like the U-shape, and the L-shape. They’re popular because they’re easily moved.

Chesterfield

Chesterfield sofas are known for their tufted or quilted style. With some of these sofas, they only have the design on their arms and back, but others have it on the bench too.

Lawson-style Sofa

The Lawson-style is made to be comfortable. The signature element of design for this sofa is its back made of pillows that are separate from its frame.

The reason that this design was created was to give consumers a more cushioned and softer sofa that has large cushions which aren’t taut in the sofa’s frame. They come in lots of colors, materials and sizes and the pillows are able to be moved to give you the best comfort.

Mid-century Modern

This is a sofa that was popular from 1940 through 1970, and it’s now coming back. This sofa style has clean lines and minimalistic style. The sofa comes in many varieties and it’s made to be comfortable while looking good. Even though it’s not exactly a sofa that will be your most comfortable choice, it can enhance your home’s décor.

English

This sofa is known for its low arms and its high back. The sofa’s upholstery is tight but it has a decent amount of cushioning all over, even on its arms.

Although it’s like the Bridgewater, the low arms and taut upholstery distinguish it. There are even some English sofas that have arms that are so low that they don’t look like they have arms at all.

Bridgewater

This sofa is comfortable and casual, with slightly rolled arms lower than its back. Even though the design of the Bridgewater fits in the majority of rooms, it won’t usually stand out in a room.

If you’re looking for a traditional, reasonably comfortable sofa, the Bridgewater sofa is a good choice.

Camel Back

This design’s main feature’s a back that’s high in its center. This then descends into a line into the sofa’s arms.

This sofa is also known for their exposed wooden legs and wood that is frequently exposed on its arms and the top of its back.

Cabriole

The trademark element of this design is equal height, continuous arms and back. Often the sofa’s arms will curve inward and create a lengthly line between the arms.

Some of the Cabriole sofas have ornate elements. But most of the time they will substitute features that are more comfortable like cushioning throughout, particularly in the sofa’s seat.

They also have wood trim that is along the arms and the back. But you can often find more modern sofas without this trim.

Chaise Lounge

Although these types of sofas are classic designs, they’re still popular, particularly when you have a huge bedroom. Some of them come with arms and some of them are armless.

Sleepers

These are very popular, since not only is it a sofa but it also gives you a place to sleep when you have guests. There are several types of sleepers.

  • Sofa Bed – This is the one that a lot of people think about when it comes to sleeper sofas. This sofa has a bed that folds beneath the sofa’s belly and it can be pulled out when needed.
  • Futon – This is a combination sofa and bed. Usually the sofa’s back will release or fold downward so that a flat, large cushioned sleeping surface is created.
  • Sleeper Couch (Convertible) – This is made of pieces that you can rearrange into a flat large sleeping surface. The cushions of the couch make the mattress. This often will come with sectional sofas.
  • Daybed – Although it’s not the perfect place to spend the night; it’s great for taking a nap. It’s similar to chaise lounges but it has backs or ends on each of its sides. The issue is that they’re not made for people who are tall, so they can be very uncomfortable.

Loveseat

Loveseats are basically sofas that will accommodate just two people and they often come with living room furniture sets. They come in lots of designs and styles like cabriole, camelback and others.

Divan

Divans are sofas without backs. This means that you want to put them against one of your bare walls so that you’re able to arrange pillows to provide a back that’s cushioned. Even though they’re not very practical, since you’re limited to their placement, divans also offer versatility with pillow placement.

When you are looking for a sofa, remember that you should think about your lifestyle and your space. This will give you a good idea of what type of sofa you should buy.
